Lv19:33 'When an alien lives with you in your land, do not ill-treat him.'
Families of asylum seekers are locked away indefinitely without trial. If new arrivals do not get to Croydon within 48 hrs they are denied support and abandoned to destitution. Government decision-making is shoddy denying persecuted people sanctuary. The tabloid media persist in demonising refugees. If you think this is disgusting join STAR. Many refugees in Southampton are afraid and isolated without the English to make new friends and without the friendships through which to learn English. Refugees are misunderstood and treated with suspicion by the majority communities. They are materially needy and, although often highly qualified, struggle to find work. If you want to help out practically join STAR.

Friends International
Deut 10:19 "You are to love those who are strangers..."
Friends International in Southampton runs a programme of various events for international students of any nationality or faith. We aim to give international students the chance to experience British culture, to make friends with British students, and to hear the gospel in a culturally sensitive way. CU members can get involved by befriending international students, helping with language problems, assisting internationals in settling into the UK, or inviting them to social events or bible studies. Christian volunteers are also needed to help organise and run events and bible studies. Training is provided. See the website www.fisuk.org for current events.

PURE (Promoting a Universal Rights Ethos)
PURE is a society at the University that campaigns for FAIR and ETHICAL trade and HUMAN RIGHTS issues. We run the Monday Market stall in the Union Concourse and organise events and campaigns to raise awareness. We also aim to reach out further than just the university and have links with the city Fair Trade groups and other national organisations. We meet each Monday in the union bar/stags head at 5:30pm and then at various times during the week if necessary. We are currently heavily involved with the push to make Southampton a Fair Trade University for the next academic year. Get in touch and get involved!
