Church Directory

We think it is really important that you get involved in a local church.  All of these churches are worth trying.  We'd suggest going to to a few that seem like churches you would want to get involved in, but make sure that you settle in a church quickly, and get involved in service and fellowship at your church.

Once you are settled, you may want to find a mentor at your church.  Go to the mentoring page for more information, and a list of contacts.

Above Bar Church

ABC is a fairly large church made up of people of all ages from across Southampton. We put a large emphasis on the Bible in all that we do, as it is the primary way that we get to know God better. We aim to live this out in vibrant worship and loving Christian community, wanting everyone seeking God to be helped and welcomed as they hear the claims of Jesus Christ. In previous years, many students have attended and we’d love to get to know you and to welcome you into the church family if you decide to make us your home church while you’re here.

Sunday Services are at 9.15am (family orientated), 11.00am and 6.30pm.

ABC has a student ministry team which oversees the care and nurturing of students who decide to join us. Three times a term after our 11am service we have a student lunch. Here you can expect to receive great food and enjoy the opportunity to grapple with various issues from a biblical perspective. The idea is to think through how knowing Jesus relates to our daily lives. Don’t miss it!

The vision of student work at ABC follows on from the vision and values of the church.

Here is our vision: we want to glorify God by making and maturing disciples of Jesus Christ, so that in everything he will have the supremacy. (We are excited about this!)

And the four values we have as a church relate to student work like this

·    Mission-focused

Enabling and encouraging students to be passionate and equipped to spread the gospel on campus, and to be informed about mission and opportunities at home and abroad.

·    God-dependent:

Encouraging students to be committed to prayer in all things, and living in dependence on the Holy Spirit.

·    Bible-centred:

Enabling and encouraging students to grow into radical disciples of Jesus Christ, increasing in love for him and other people. Developing deeper understanding of biblical truth and being equipped to apply it to every area of life.

·    Part of an authentic community

Enabling and encouraging students to be integrated into and supported by the church family, and prepared for the transition to life after university.
