Church Directory

We think it is really important that you get involved in a local church.  All of these churches are worth trying.  We'd suggest going to to a few that seem like churches you would want to get involved in, but make sure that you settle in a church quickly, and get involved in service and fellowship at your church.

Once you are settled, you may want to find a mentor at your church.  Go to the mentoring page for more information, and a list of contacts.

Central Baptist Church

Central Baptist Church

We are a small but growing fellowship in the heart of the Polygon area. All visitors are made welcome at Central, whether it's just for a visit or whether you're looking for somewhere to settle!

We hold two meetings on a Sunday; the morning service starts at 10.30am and our evening service, called 'Urban Hymns', is at 6.30pm.

Central Baptist is considered by residents to be the local church for the Polygon. Our vision has been to bring the message of God's mercy and love outside our walls into the surrounding area. Recently, at two worship events, praise and proclamation of God bellowed out of the church into the streets inside. Many passers by were intrigued and many eyes were seen straining through the windows!

The vision is something we continue to pray through and seek God's guidance for. God has given us a word that He is doing something new and amazing in this church, so that His name may be glorified in Southampton. Regular prayer meetings and prayer walks are organised to mobilise the saints into loving action and the advancement of the kingdom within the area.

As part of this vision, Urban Hymns is geared towards revealing Jesus to the 75% student population of the Polygon area. It is planned and organised by those it aims to reach, with a strong gospel thrust that marries the wisdom of the ancient world to the complexities of the post modern world. It is a service with a difference; we try to include multi-media, biblical preaching, worship and elements of drama - Sunday evenings may never be the same again!

Our morning service (currently taking a more traditional approach to worship), has a mixture of new and old to the worship, strong biblical preaching and creche/Junior Church facilities are available for those with children. Prayer ministry is always available after both services.

Central also offers ALPHA courses and Bible studies for those keen to know God more, and a range of other activities where our friendships can grow into fellowship. We are currently involved in four Bible studies; two mixed fellowships (one designed for younger members), an international student evangelistic group and a women's fellowship. If you are looking to discover your gifts and find your life's calling, then Central is a good place to start. As we serve Christ's community across Southampton, there are various opportunities within Urban Hymns and the wider church to begin to explore where God is leading you. The church building is also host to other fellowships and organisations who use our many rooms as a centre for their meetings. This is part of our desire to see God's building used as a centre for the community. The church has recently been used to host numerous events, recently including a 'Make Poverty History' launch day, PsalmDrummers worship, Calvary Chapel End Times Bible conference and song writing with Paul Oakley and Alun Leppit (who is the pastor at one of our adjoining fellowships). Please feel free to come and join us, so we can seek God and His kingdom together!
