Church Directory
We think it is really important that you get involved in a local church. All of these churches are worth trying. We'd suggest going to to a few that seem like churches you would want to get involved in, but make sure that you settle in a church quickly, and get involved in service and fellowship at your church.
Once you are settled, you may want to find a mentor at your church. Go to the mentoring page for more information, and a list of contacts.
Swaythling Methodist Church
Swaythling Methodist Church
We are the church on Burgess Road with an imposing dome, half way between the University campus and the Wessex Lane halls. Since its opening in 1932, Swaythling has served the community in all the variety of its need. Today numerous local groups use our building, and we sponsor a Community Youth Project with four workers.
The living church - the church family - is not large, but we are big-hearted, and offer a warm welcome.
Over the years we have made good friends with many students from home and overseas. They have brought many gifts to boost our church life, and we in turn have offered friendship and a spiritual home.
We look forward to meeting you.
Sunday Worship:
Our morning service is mostly traditional, with hymns accompanied on grand piano.. There is some variety because we are served by the Southampton Circuit. The evening “Pic 'n' Mix” is a unique service, aimed at reaching unchurched folk on the Flower's Estate. Worship continues throughout the evening, while teaching, discussion and prayer are all available in different rooms. We would welcome anyone who would like to help out with worship, youth or children's work.
Outreach:
We operate the Bunker on weekday mornings (except Wednesday), which is an opportunity for anyone to enjoy coffee, toast and fellowship. We have an outreach worker who works with people in the local community.
